ALLIED FORCES

General Curtis LeMay USAF Ret., was an enthusiastic associate of Trevor Constable in the latter's Operation Clincher against Southern California smog in 1990. They are seen here at General LeMay's home in Riverside not long before the distinguished air general's death. General LeMay was a longtime fan of Trevor Constable's aviation books, and they had many mutual friends among aviation's luminaries. The founder of the U.S.A.F. Strategic Air Command set up one of Constable's anti-smog units in his backyard, and organized additional sites for him in Riverside, California, that were decisive in reducing Riverside smog to record low levels in the 1990 season. Operation Clincher reduced Southern California smog by 24 percent, across the board for the whole season.
